About Ganap

“Anong ganap?”

If you grew up in the Philippines, you have probably asked that question a hundred times. What’s happening? Where is everyone going? Anything good this weekend? That question is exactly why this site exists.

How it started

Ganap.io began with two of us who love going out — movies most of all, but really anything: a gig in Quezon City, a food festival in Makati, community theater, a random convention we had never heard of until someone posted about it.

The problem was never a lack of things to do. It was finding them. Every Friday looked the same: one tab open for SM Cinema, another for Ayala Malls, a Facebook events page here, a ticketing site there, plus a group chat asking friends if anything was happening. By the time we had pieced it all together, half the good seats were gone — or we gave up and just ate somewhere near the house again.

At some point one of us said what we had both been thinking: why isn’t all of this in one place? So we built it.

What Ganap is

Ganap.io puts what’s happening in the Philippines on one site — concerts, gigs, theater, comedy, sports, conventions and festivals, plus cinema showtimes across the major chains. You can browse by city, by category, by date, or just by “what’s on this weekend,” which honestly is how we use it ourselves.

We also write guides — where to actually watch a film in Metro Manila, how ticket booking really works, what’s worth doing in cities beyond the capital. Those come from our own trips, our own mistakes, and a lot of hours spent comparing recliner seats. They cover the things a listing can’t tell you: which section of the arena actually has a view, how early to arrive, what the bag policy is, how to get there without a car.

We do not sell tickets. Every listing links out to the organiser or the official ticketing partner.

Better with friends

Going out is more fun with company, so we have been building Ganap around that too:

• Sync plans with your barkada. Found a concert everyone’s been talking about? Add it to your calendar and compare schedules with friends, so “game ba kayo?” turns into an actual plan instead of a message left on seen.
• No one to go with? Find your people. Sometimes the problem isn’t the event — it’s that nobody in your circle is free, or into the same things. Hangouts helps you plan an outing with people who share your interests, whether that’s indie films, K-pop concerts, or food festivals.
• Share your favorites. Saved a movie, a gig, or a spot you know your friends would love? Send it straight to them from the site. Half of our best nights out started with someone sharing a link.

Who runs it

Ganap.io is an independently run site — not a company, not a media group. It is operated by the two of us. There is no newsroom behind it and no investor pushing coverage in any direction; when a guide recommends a venue or a seat tier, it is because that is what we would tell a friend.

Where our data comes from

• Movie showtimes — published schedules from the cinema chains themselves (SM Cinema, Ayala Malls Cinemas, Robinsons Movieworld, Vista Cinemas and others), refreshed several times a day.
• Events — organiser and promoter announcements, venue calendars, official ticketing pages, and submissions sent to us directly.
• Film metadata — titles, synopses, posters, runtimes, and cast come from The Movie Database (TMDB). See the attribution below.
• Guides — written by the two of us, from first-hand experience plus checks against official venue and transport sources.

How we keep it accurate

Every guide on Guides & News carries a “last verified” date. Prices, gate rules and transport details change constantly in Manila; that date tells you how fresh the page is, and it is the first thing to check before you rely on a number.

Showtimes refresh automatically through the day, and past screenings drop off on their own. Event listings are checked against the organiser’s own page before publishing. Dated roundups are marked as out of date once the weekend or month they cover has passed, rather than being left to look current.

Schedules change and mistakes happen. If you spot a wrong date, price, or venue, tell us at hello@ganap.io and we will correct it. Our full sourcing and corrections process is on the Editorial Policy page.

How the site makes money

Ganap.io is free to use and is funded by display advertising, and in some cases by affiliate links to ticketing partners. Advertising has no influence on what gets listed, how listings are ordered, or what a guide recommends. Anything paid for by a partner is labelled as sponsored where it appears.

Attribution

Film metadata, posters, and cast information are provided by The Movie Database (TMDB). This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.

Where it’s going

We are a small team — very small, you could fit us in one jeepney seat — and we are just getting started. On our list: better date-night ideas, restaurant hangouts around venues, more cities outside Metro Manila, and tools to help you plan a whole day out rather than find one event.
